My COVID-19 Vaccine Story: ANA President Dr. Ernest Grant

Upon learning that the University of North Carolina was hosting a COVID-19 vaccine phase III clinical trial, and needed volunteers, American Nurses Association (ANA) President Dr. Ernest Grant didn’t hesitate to sign up. This past fall, Grant voluntarily participated in the Moderna clinical trial to raise vaccine awareness and support the nursing profession. He hoped that his leadership by example would help combat vaccine hesitancy and instill confidence in nurses and communities of color. Watch Dr. Grant’s story.

Strategies for Boosting Vaccine Confidence

This 13-minute quick video examines solid reasons to feel comfortable getting vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine and techniques to encourage vaccination.

Dr. Sorrell is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. A Program Director of a $5 million state-wide Colorado Legislative funded Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Services Program, she is now Assistant Director of both the NIH NIDA Great Lakes Clinical Trials Network, and the Illinois Substance Use Regional Leadership Center, with a combined budget of over $20 million dollars towards Community Engaged Behavioral Health and Substance Use Treatment services for urban underserved groups in the Great Lakes Region. Served on national SAMHSA committees for Cultural Competence in Nursing Care and increasing Minority representation in graduate nursing programs. Her doctoral training is in rural and urban underserved Mental Health and Substance use services and Complementary medicine research.

Dr. Aczon-Armstrong is the Assistant Professor at Roseman University of Health Sciences (RUHS) College of Nursing. She was a Fulbright Senior Specialist (2014-2018) and visiting nursing Professor at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda, Africa.  Dr. Aczon-Armstrong was the Founding President of the Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA) of Hawaii and AAPINA of NV. Dr. Aczon-Armstrong is an Alumna Nurse Scholar and National Advisory Committee member for SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program at ANA. Her focus areas include diversity, inclusion, and equality, as well as depression, substance use and chronic illness in Asian/Pacific Islander population.
