Remember Health Heroes Day

The American Nurses Association joins the International Council of Nurses, World Health Organization, and Nursing Now in recognizing May 11, 2020 as Remember Health Heroes Day. On this day, we ask one and all to take part in a moment of reflection to honor the memory of nurses and health workers who we have tragically lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask you to join us in flooding social media with hashtag #RememberHealthHeroes by sharing a photo or video of a lit candle, posting a virtual candle or sharing a personal act of remembrance in recognition of the fallen nurses and health workers.

ANA Board member and nurse speaks about patient care and resources during pandemic

(3/18/2020) – Jennifer Gill, a member of the American Nurses Association Board of Directors, speaks with Univision about what hospitals need when planning for the potential overflow of coronavirus patients.

Translation
Jorge Ramos, Univision: The question is whether we are prepared. Jennifer from the American Nurses Association is with us. The first question is whether hospitals are beginning to overflow. Today there are 7,000 cases. Do hospitals have everything they need, what do they lack?
Jennifer Gill, ANA Board Member: Nice to meet you. Thank you for having me here. We are currently preparing as much as we can. We are concerned about not having sufficient resources such as protection for those of us who are caring for patients. But we are asking people to respect everything that is happening and to try to control the patients that we have in the hospital.
Jorge: Many people think that if they have symptoms they should go directly to the hospital, but what are hospitals recommending?
Jennifer: Now we have to save resources for those who have an emergency. We are running a clinic outside the hospital for patients in our group. A doctor or nurse can refer patients to the mobile clinic if the patient is showing symptoms of coronavirus. Also we are asking the patients and people who help us at this time to control the patients we see in the hospital, because we are saving those resources for emergencies.
Jorge: Thank you for everything you are doing to support us
